New Faces Head CCME
Churches' Commission for Migrants in Europe (CCME) unanimously elected a new Moderator, Professor Dr Victoria Kamondji, at its 18th General Assembly (GA) meeting in Bucharest Romania 16-19 June. Vice President of the Protestant Federation of France, Victoria, who is Sierra Leonean, succeeds the Revd Arlingon Trotman of the UK.
The GA also elected as treasurer the Most Senior Apostle Adejare Oyewole of Nigerian descent. Adejare, leader of the Council of African and Caribbean Churches, UK, and member of CEC Central Committee, succeeds Michel Bubick. More here.
The GA noted that in the week prior to the gethering in Bucharest, more than 150 persons drowned of the Tunisian coast, and the death toll in 2011 to date is well over 1500 persons known to have met their fate simply seeking safety and freedom. This form of injustice is the central reason why we are engaged in this critical work. Churches and society generally should not hesitate to challenge it. See our statement.
